Indonesian traditional foods are rich with spices. To add fresh sour taste, Indonesians use various spices such as tamarind (asam jawa), asam sunti, asam gelugur (asam gelugo/asam keping or garcinia atroviridis or Garcinia Cambogia ), asam kandis and asam kranji. Each area probably has different name for Garcinia Atroviridis, but Indonesians especially in Sumatra call it as Asam Gelugur. While Malaysians call it with asam keping. This fruit is said as a family of mangosteen, but it has similarity with orange.

It is not only used as a spice, but it is also used as home remedies for various diseases. For instance, this fruit is useful to reduce weight, giving inhibitor effect to Plasmodium berghei that becomes the cause of malaria, suppress appetite, helping break down fat, reduce bad cholesterol in blood, treat wormy, edema, menstrual problems, rheumatic, hypertension, earache and gingivitis.
The main content of asam gelugur is hydroxycitric or HCA. There was a researcher who made a study of this content. He was impressed by the ability of HCA to suppress appetite and to break down fat in body. With these two benefits, asam keping can help you lose weight.
It was said that HCA prevents glucose and starchy foods to be converted to fat. It also can control serotonin production in brain, which has function to control appetite.
Home remedy to lose weight
Take some asam keping and slices of ginger. Boil them in two glasses of water. Wait until it is only one glass of water left. Drink the concoction after it is lukewarm. It is better to drink it in the morning and in the night.
